01

Resin Bound vs Resin Bonded Driveways

Resin bound and resin bonded surfacing use similar materials but produce different finishes.

With a resin bound surface, decorative aggregate is mixed with resin before being laid and finished to create a relatively smooth surface.

With a resin bonded system, resin is applied to the prepared surface before aggregate is scattered over it, producing a more textured appearance.

We can discuss the intended use, existing base and appearance you are looking for before recommending the most appropriate approach.

02

Can Resin Be Laid Over Existing Tarmac or Concrete?

In some circumstances, resin surfacing can be installed over an existing stable tarmac or concrete base. The existing surface first needs to be assessed for movement, cracking, drainage and general condition.

Where the underlying surface has failed, simply covering it may not provide a satisfactory long-term result. Repairs or additional preparation may therefore be required before resin is installed.

Where conventional asphalt is the better option, see our tarmac driveway surfacing service .

Frequently Asked Questions

Resin Driveway Cornwall FAQs

Is resin surfacing suitable for Cornwall?

Resin surfacing can be suitable for Cornwall properties when the system, base preparation and drainage are appropriate for the site. Each proposed installation should be assessed individually.

Is a resin bound driveway permeable?

Resin bound surfacing can be permeable, but the complete driveway construction also needs an appropriate permeable base and drainage arrangement for water to pass through effectively.

Can resin be installed over existing tarmac?

It may be possible where the existing tarmac is stable and suitable. We inspect the base first to identify cracking, movement or other defects that could affect the new surface.

How much does a resin driveway cost in Cornwall?

Cost depends on the area, condition of the existing base, preparation required, access and chosen aggregate. A site survey allows us to provide an accurate quotation.
